State law requires that city and county zoning ordinances be made in accordance with a Comprehensive Plan. Main components of a Comprehensive Plan update include: future land use plan, future land use plan map, and land use development policies. The Comprehensive Plan is used as a guide for future development decisions and implemented by the zoning and subdivision ordinances as well as a capital improvement plan. Such plans should be reviewed from time to time to ensure that the policies and land use plan remain applicable to the community’s needs.
