Transportation Mapping
Another type of map that ECIA staff produces relates to transportation issues. These issues can range from highway infrastructure, to bike and pedestrian trails, to barge freight. The maps aid in visualization of the current transportation trends in the region as well as providing a look at the future potential for the various modes of transportation. These maps also take into account current and future land use practices in relationship to transportation.
“The Bicycle and Pedestrian Accidents From 1980 to 2003” map is part of the 2031 Long-Range Transportation Plan that is required by the federal government every five years. This map shows where the documented accidents have occurred in the area. With this map, strategies for improving or creating better bicycle and pedestrian trails throughout the area can be formed and implemented.
