What is Geographical Information Systems (GIS)?
Geographical Information Systems are capable of integrating, storing, editing, analyzing, sharing, and displaying geographically-referenced information. It allows users to create interactive queries, analyze spatial information, and edit data.

ECIA staff work on many different areas of planning including land use, transportation, and special projects. Each of these aspects requires different types of maps to be produced; ranging from simple to very complex. Geographical Information Systems maps are analytical tools for planners and engineers. By creating visuals for references, regional, county and city planners and engineers can look at their current infrastructure and planning processes to see if and where changes or improvements could be made.
