HOME Grant Program
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides financial assistance to state and local governments to implement housing strategies through the HOME and CDBG programs. The State of Iowa takes a unique approach by combining a portion of its CDBG funds with its HOME funds for housing activities. Uses of housing funds include housing rehabilitation, new construction, assistance to homebuyers, assistance to tenants, and administrative costs. ECIA has recently assisted DeWitt and Grand Mound with Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) Housing Fund applications. Both of these communities were awarded grants for a combined total of over $500,000. The money awarded to DeWitt and Grand Mound will be used for housing rehabilitation assistance to ten and six owner-occupied households, respectively. Both programs will be conducted in targeted neighborhoods in the cities.
